In 2010, a new series of banknotes with denominations of 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 rupees appeared, replacing the Banknotes of the previous series in circulation. In 2013, a commemorative banknote of 500 rupees was issued in honor of the Summit of Heads of State held in Sri Lanka.
