On June 11, 2015, the Reserve Bank announced the final demonetization of the Zimbabwean dollar. Bank accounts denominated in Zimbabwean dollars as at 31 December 2008 will be converted to US dollars in the following manner:
invoices up to 175 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars = 5 US dollars;
invoices over 175 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars - at the rate of 35 quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars = 1 US dollar.
Zimbabwean dollar banknotes will be redeemable for US dollars by all banks, building societies and post offices from June 15 to September 30, 2015 in the following manner:
Banknotes of the 2008 model - 250 trillion: 1;
2009 banknotes - 250: 1.
Banknotes will be accepted for exchange in the amount equivalent from 1 cent to 50 US dollars. Amounts over $ 50 can only be exchanged through bank accounts. Banknotes not presented for exchange before September 30, 2015 will be canceled.
