All banknotes issued in the United States since 1863 are still legal tender, while in most other countries in which the US dollar is circulating or in currency exchange offices, banknotes issued since 1928 are usually accepted.
Banknotes in denominations of 500 and above dollars are circulated exclusively in the United States, being quite rare,
and, as a rule, are sold at auctions at prices well above face value.
