The Netherlands Antilles guilder (Dutch. Antilliaanse gulden) is the currency of Curacao and Sint Maarten, earlier - the currency of the Netherlands Antilles.
Until 1940, the Netherlands Antilles guilder was equated to the Netherlands guilder. After the occupation of the Netherlands from September 1940, parity with the Dutch guilder was canceled, the guilder is pegged to the US dollar: 1,88585 guilder = 1 US dollar. Due to the cessation of the flow of coins from the Netherlands until 1945, the coins were minted in the USA, they differ from those minted in the Netherlands by the sign - "palm".
In 1971, the ratio to the US dollar was changed: 1,79 guilders = 1 US dollar.
Aruba seceded from the Netherlands Antilles on January 1, 1986, becoming a self-governing state within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. On October 10, 2010, as a result of the constitutional reform, Curacao and Sint Maarten also became self-governing, and Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius became special municipalities of the Kingdom.
In 1986, Aruba introduced its own currency, the Aruban florin, instead of the Dutch Antillean guilder. Since January 1, 2011, the US dollar is the only official currency of Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius.
Curacao and Sint Maarten continue to use the Dutch Antillean guilder as their national currency. In 2012, it was planned to introduce a new currency - the Caribbean guilder (official abbreviation - CMg), which will be exchanged for the current guilder in a 1: 1 ratio, but the introduction of the new currency has been postponed indefinitely.
Banknotes were issued into circulation by the Bank of Curacao. In 1962, the bank was renamed the Bank of the Netherlands Antilles, in 2010 - the Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten. The Central Bank of Curacao and Sint Maarten, which is in charge of the emission policy in these territories, currently issued and are in circulation banknotes in denominations of 10 (ten), 25 (twenty five), 50 (fifty) and 100 (one hundred) Netherlands Antilles guilders.
