The Cape Verde Escudo, the Cape Verdean Escudo (pronounced "iskudu" in Portuguese and Cape Verdean) is the currency unit of Cape Verde, in circulation since July 1, 1977. One escudo is equal to 100 centavos. Banknotes in denominations of 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 escudos are in circulation.
