Somoni is the national currency of the Republic of Tajikistan, named after the founder of the first Tajik Ismail Samani. 1 somoni is sibdivided into 100 dirams.
The somoni was introduced on October 30, 2000 and replaced the Tajik ruble (1 somoni = 1000 Tajik rubles), the exchange was carried out until April 1, 2001.
Banknotes in denominations of 1, 5, 20, 50 dirams and 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 somoni were issued on October 30, 2000 in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 415.
In 2010, modifications of banknotes in 1, 5, 10 and 20 somoni were issued with a changed color design, as well as new banknotes in denominations of 3, 200 and 500 somoni (from September 10).
On December 25, 2012, modifications of 5 and 10 somoni banknotes with an additional holographic security element were issued.
Since March 5, 2013, modifications of banknotes in denominations of 20, 50 and 100 somoni have been introduced, with a new security element: the last three digits of the serial number are printed on the kinegram using a laser and have an increased relief that can be distinguished with the naked eye and by touch.
