Banknotes with denominations of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10 Tanzanian shillings of the 000 and 2003 model are officially in circulation. The banknote of 2010 shillings of the 500 model is gradually going out of circulation due to the rapid deterioration of a paper banknote, a coin of a similar denomination will gradually replace it.
2003 banknotes were put into circulation in February 2003, 2010 banknotes - in January 2011.
Now in circulation are Banknotes in denominations of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10 shillings of the sample of 000 and 2003. 2011 banknotes remain legal tender and are gradually being withdrawn from circulation. Banknotes of all previous issues were withdrawn from circulation, but can be exchanged for modern ones at the branches of the Bank of Tanzania.
