The most common fears of Russians

Contents:

  •  We present you the most common fears of Russians. The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) polled 1600 residents of the Russian Federation to find out what they are most afraid of in the future. The so-called "fear index" (SI) helped to put the horrors in order – how high the possibility seems to the Russians that this particular frightening event will happen to them. The index scale ranges from -100 to 100, respectively, the higher the index, the greater the internal stress.

  •  Most of all, fears flare up in medium and large cities (from one hundred thousand inhabitants to one million), where people most acutely experience the possible loss of life's blessings that have already become habitual. Villages, small towns and giant cities with a population of over a million inhabitants fear for the future to a lesser extent. At the same time, the growth of experiences was noted not in those places where everything is already bad, but where it becomes worse than before.

9. Tensions in family relationships: IS -42

  •  Least of all, Russians are afraid to quarrel with their relatives. Conflicts in the family and separation from loved ones are in last place in the ranking of the most frequent experiences of Russian residents. Of all the respondents who participated in the survey, 79% are sure that nothing threatens their family relationships.

8 Job Loss: IS -25

  •  Citizens of Russia believe that they are more likely to suffer from an earthquake than to lose their jobs: the index of fear of this problem is -25 points.

7. Decreased standard of living (decrease in income, forced transition to a low-paid job, delays in payment): SI -15

  •  In January, this problem bothered Russians much more – the index of fear then was -5. Apparently, some stabilization of the Russian economy after the shocks and getting used to stress played a role. Many firms, contrary to logic, have taken up the renovation of offices in order to meet the new economic realities in a more favorable environment.

6. Natural disasters – fires, typhoons, floods: EC -13

  •  The level of the eternal fear of citizens before the uncontrollable revelry of the elements has practically not changed since the beginning.

5. Conflicts within the country on political, national or religious grounds: EC -6

  •  Daily reports about the growing tension in the world naturally cause the residents of the Russian Federation to feel a sense of excitement and anxiety about the situation inside the country.

4. Crime: IS -7

  •  The index of fear of the criminal world has changed slightly (in July it was -8).

3. Problems with health and medical care: EC -4

  •  The fear index of this position in the rating of the most frequent fears and experiences of Russians has not changed much compared to the beginning. People still have little confidence in the medical care system and believe that the disease will cause irreparable damage not only to the body, but also to well-being.

2. Rising prices for goods, inflation, loss of savings: IP – 10

  •  Russians are less afraid of the rise in prices of goods and the loss of savings due to inflation – compared to the beginning, this figure has almost halved: in January, the fear index was 18-19 points, and the residents of the Russian Federation were least afraid of material difficulties in July – then IP was only 7. True, more than half of the respondents reported that this problem may affect them in the immediate future (or it has already happened).

1. International Tensions, Fear of War: IP-14

  •  This is the main fear of the Russians, every sixth person (60%) of those who completed the survey stated it. Respondents fear armed clashes between countries. Compared to July, the war fear index rose by 4 points. This is more than understandable, especially considering the recent events in the political arena: the war in Syria, rampant terrorism under the banner of ISIS and the tense situation in Ukraine.
